9. ‘Not so common’ Perry Common
Just like Castle Vale and Balsall Heath, Perry Common is a guide neighbourhood. The aim of this project is to develop a resident to resident consultancy service, where residents from a network of strong communities can share their experiences, good and not so good, with other communities undergoing regeneration and renewal.
Perry Common is a former ‘outer-estate’ and was very popular until the 1980s. In the 1990’s 908 houses were earmarked for demolition, and families that had lived there were being relocated. The fabric of the local community was being torn apart. During this time some people from different resident associations were determined to stand up for their community. At this excursions you can see what they did and how successful they were.
